Whether it’s a bold seagull demanding a piece of apple, a hummingbird buzzing by our balcony, or a feisty parrot playing catch with us at the bird store, birds have always captivated my son.
To explore the wonder of birds, we combined nature studies with engineering activities. We looked at the biological structures of birds –beaks, eggs, and feathers– as well as the structures that birds themselves build. Along the way, we mashed, painted, mixed, drilled, crushed, and wove. And through all the mess and fun, we gained an appreciation for the uniqueness and beauty of birds.
